Alerts (visual) 

In addition to acoustic (ring) and tactile (vibration) signals to alert you of an incoming call, emporia mobile phones also provide visual signals, for example, by flashing brightly.

 

Barphone, bar style  

“Bar style” phones are classic mobile phones without any additional fold-out, rotating or slider mechanisms. emporiaSOLIDplus is a rugged, easy-to-use bar phone.

 

Bluetooth 

Bluetooth provides the perfect way to wirelessly connect a hands-free headset and mobile phone. In some states, making calls while driving is only permitted if a hands-free system is used (check your local regulations for specific requirements).

 

Bluetooth headset  

A headset with Bluetooth capability can provide wireless connectivity with a compatible mobile phone to make hands-free calls.

 

Calculator  

The integrated calculator is handy for solving simple math problems, such as totaling up your grocery bill or calculating a discount item’s sale price.

 

Call for Care button and function  

emporia’s Call for Care button, a black heart symbol, is located on the back of emporia mobile phones that can be pressed in case of an emergency. If the emporia emergency button is pressed for three seconds, the phone automatically notifies up to five preset numbers in succession. This ensures that the emergency call gets through and does not end up on an answering machine or in a voice mailbox.

 

Calling line identification presentation (CLIP)  

Your mobile telephone number, or caller ID, is automatically presented to every line you call if the destination phone supports this feature. If you do not want your caller ID to be presented, you can restrict caller ID presentation by selecting the “CLIR” option in the “Settings” menu.

 

Charge cradle  

Also known as a docking station, the charge cradle, available with some emporia products, provides a convenient way to recharge your mobile phone. When you put the phone in its cradle, it recharges automatically and is always ready for use. Standing upright in the cradle, the mobile phone is clearly visible and has a dedicated place in the home, just like a landline phone, so it’s not as easy to misplace. emporia charge cradles offer the convenience of allowing hands-free use to make calls while the phone is charging. The charge cradle can be placed anywhere you have a power outlet; it can also be mounted on the wall.

 

Charging cable  

The charging cable is a cord that connects the mobile phone to the power outlet so you can recharge the phone’s battery. One end of the cord includes a plug that fits into your phone, while the other end includes a plug that fits a standard power outlet.

 

Clamshell phone 

A flip-style mobile phone has a hinge that divides the phone into two parts. The phone closes like a clam, making it more compact while also protecting the phone. emporiaCLICK is a sleek, clamshell-style phone.

Default setting   

The default setting is the setting on your mobile phone when it left the factory. If you want to reset your settings to the default setting, go to the menu and select “Settings” – “Reset” – “Reset All” and then select “Yes”.

 

Emergency contacts (personal)   

You can decide which individual numbers should be saved for the emporia Call for Care function. Emergency contacts could include the number of a spouse, family member, neighbor, doctor or emergency services. When the emergency button is pressed, these five numbers are called automatically. If a call cannot be successfully placed to any of the five numbers, emergency services are dialed through “911.”

Font size (adjustable)   

The size of the on-screen characters can be adjusted to provide optimum legibility.

 

Hands-free capability   

With hands-free capability, you can dial, take calls and have phone conversations without lifting or holding the handset to the ear. In this manner, you can make calls while performing other tasks that require both hands.

 

Handset volume   

The volume on your cell phone can be set individually. You can decide what volume is most comfortable for you. The handset volume on emporia mobile phones can be set up to “very, very loud” to ensure you can hear everything.

 

IP54 

IP stands for “International Protection” or “Ingress Protection” and refers to  the suitability of devices for different environmental conditions. IP54 means the phone is splash water-proof and protected against dust.

 

Keypad 

The keypad is the keyboard of a mobile phone. emporia phones feature large keys with an easy-to-find pressure point, which makes it easier to use the phone.

LED flashlight  

The integrated LED  flashlight stays lit as long as the button on the side of the casing remains pressed. The flashlight on emporiaSOLIDplus also flashes brightly for incoming calls. In addition to the vibration alert, this is a useful function for people with impaired hearing.

 

Loudspeaker 

The loudspeaker is located at the top of the mobile phone. You can use it to hear the person you are calling without pressing your ear against the earpiece. emporia mobile phones are hearing aid compatible, so they do not cause  interference when used with hearing aids.

 

Memory  

The more memory a mobile phone has, the more telephone numbers and addresses you have at your fingertips.

 

Menu 

The menu is the main control area on your mobile phone. In the menu, you use the navigation buttons to select functions and settings.

 

Microphone 

You speak into the microphone, or mouthpiece, when you talk to the person you’re calling. It is located at the bottom of the mobile phone.

 

Mil-STD-810F or Military Specification 

The Mil-STD 810F standard was defined by the US military and is the most common international standard used to certify products whose functions have been tested under adverse conditions. The standard guarantees ultimate equipment durability and reliability.

MMS Messaging 

Multimedia messaging service, or MMS, is a standard way to send messages that include multimedia content which may include photos or video (on devices that support these features).

Navigation button  

You use the navigation buttons to change the option selected in the menu and to select the preferred setting or function.

 

Network provider   

A network provider, or carrier, is the provider of a mobile communication network.

 

Phone book  

Phone numbers can be stored in the device’s phone book. If you want to call one of your contacts, simply go to the phone book and select the number you want to dial.

 

Prepaid card 

Also known as a “pay-as-you-go card,” you can use a prepaid card to make calls without being tied to a contract  fee and without a minimum charge. Simply pay ahead to put calling credit on your phone and make calls until your credit runs out.

 

Reminder and alarm clock service   

If you don’t want to forget an upcoming event, such as a birthday or an appointment, you can use the reminder function on your mobile phone. Simply enter the specific date and time and the cell phone will sound an alert tone when the date arrives. The alarm clock function works in the same way; set your preferred wake-up time and the phone will sound an alarm tone at that time.

 

Ringtones (polyphonic)  

Polyphonic ringtones consist of several notes that play little melodies. Users can choose from a wide range of individual ringtones to personalize their phone.

SIM card  

A subscriber identity module card (SIM card) must be inserted into a mobile phone before you can access the network of the individual network provider. To obtain a SIM card, you must either sign up for a contract or purchase a prepaid card.

 

SMS Messaging 

Using the short message service (SMS), you can send text messages of up 160 characters from your phone.

 

Storage battery   

A storage battery is a rechargeable battery that stores electrical energy. In the case of mobile phones, users can recharge the battery by plugging the charger cable into a power outlet and connecting the other end of the charger to their cell phone.

Top 10  

You can put your 10 most important contacts at the top of the phone book regardless of the alphabetical order.

 

Top 5  

Your five most important numbers can also be listed at the top of the phone book regardless of the alphabetical order to give you immediate access to these numbers.

 

Vibration  

When you can’t have your ringtone at full volume, you can set your mobile phone to vibrate to discreetly signal an incoming call. This ensures you never miss a call in loud surroundings or if your ringtone is low. You can enable a ringtone along with the vibration function or just use the vibration function on its own. This is especially suitable for individuals with impaired hearing.
